I am currently doing a voluntary edit of a short story - and I'm really enjoying it.

The story is quite an interesting idea, but the grammar is not good and neither is the layout. That is my first task.

Then comes the content. There's lots of dialogue, probably too much, and there is not enough description, so I've got to mark places to add or take away.

This is the first time I've ever done anything like this but I'm enjoying it. I even think I've got a flair for it!

One question: Whay can I see errors in other people's documents immediately but can never spot them in my own?

How's this for blurb - it's for my novel:

Warren is stuck in a rut. His job is boring, he is not communicating in his marriage; he finds it difficult to relate to his children, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy and wants to break out but doesn’t know how.

He ends up in this world where he will learn about his own struggles by helping in the struggles of others. He will face up to his communication problems in his relationship to the watchmaker and daughter.  He will confront his feelings of inadequacy by facing up to a challenge only he can perform. He will see that to break out of the rut you may need to destroy the thing that you think makes you who you are.

This is my first post on this blog.

I will write mainly about my writing. That is my obsession at the moment and it's what I love to do. I write fiction and non-fiction. I write articles,mainly about travel in Spain and the Bible - my two main interests. I also write short stories, poetry and I've started work on a novel.

I write because it is a release. I have bottled up to many things throughout my life and finally I've found an outlet in writing. That is why some of my writing is strange, some of my stories end in a bizarre way and my novel is about the struggles in a dark world.
